WNBS received approval from the FCC and began broadcasting in the early evening of July 1, 1948. Early programming included live music from the studio from country music groups and from gospel quartets. A piano was a part of the equipment in the studio for musicians to use.

WNBS - AM continues to provide the services envisioned by its founders with a strong emphasis on news, especially lcal ews, with 5 such newscasts daily. It also has 2 remote shows daily, known as The Breakfast Show and On The Road, which provide a variety of history, community events and general information. It also carries several syndicated talk shows.
