The station went on the air as WCRG on 1985-05-09. on 1986-10-02, the station changed its call sign to WYMC-FM, on 1991-02-15 to the current WGKY.

We think the record labels are looking for a big bailout at radio's expense. Music stations like Electric 96-9 would have to turn to talk, news or sports to try to make a living. You would have to find another way to hear your favorite music without having to pay for it yourself --that's not right.
WNBS received approval from the FCC and began broadcasting in the early evening of July 1, 1948. Early programming included live music from the studio from country music groups and from gospel quartets. A piano was a part of the equipment in the studio for musicians to use.
