Timber Roots' history began quite some time before the creation of Timber Roots came to fruition. Stemming as far back as 1855, Timber Roots has made its mark on the lumber industry.

The Timber Roots' name is derived from the title of a book written about the early beginnings of the company's founders. The "MTD" portion of their name stands for the three entities of Timber Roots...Millwork, Truss and Distribution.

The first official millwork facility began in the late 1990's in Rochester, MN and has since grown to include facilities in Colorado, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, South Dakota and Wisconsin.

Timber Roots' first truss plant was opened in Mitchell, SD and has grown to a list of plants located in Colorado, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, Utah, and Wisconsin.
