The Hill family has spent several decades working hard to provide the best quality food, service, and family atmosphere for local and area dining.
The restaurant’s name was changed to Hill’s Drive-In, and it quickly moved to the forefront of food service technology. Greg remembers that as the drive-in became the “hot spot” for Mayfield teenagers, his dad agonized over a way to replace curbside service. After a long night of contemplation, Jerry Hill came up with Mayfield’s first drive through window. This was around 1970. Jerry had an electrician take a house intercom and install it under the awnings. He took a metal electrical box and drilled holes in it to mount a speaker in there. He built a block addition on the east side and finally the drive-through window was complete. Morris Clark was a real good friend of his that owned Dairy Queen and he said, “Jerry, that’ll never work.” But, sure enough it did.
Greg Hill and his wife, Christy, have owned and operated Hill’s Bar-B-Que since 1986. In August of 1998, Greg wanted to build a bigger and better Hill’s. So, he demolished the old building and reopened a brand new one in November of 1999. The new restaurant has in-house dining, seating 120 people down stairs, 70 people upstairs in the new banquet room, and convenient drive-through window.
