Shaker Museum

South union’s Shaker Village is more than just a memory. It is a place to visit and learn first hand about the Shaker way of life. Several of the original building have been restored and now house a museum of Shaker folklife and culture. The 1824 centre house is filled with exhibits featuring original artifacts that exemplify fine Shaker craftsmanship.

The museum also houses the world’s largest collection of western Shaker furniture. Nearby Shaker Tavern was built In 1869 as a business venture for the shakers. It housed a hotel and restaurant and served as a passenger station for the L and N Railroad. Today the Shaker Tavern is open once again to the public for overnight accommodations and group dining by reservation.
