Robinson Forest WMA

15,000 acres in Breathitt Co., Knott Co., and Perry Co.

Robinson Forest and Cyprus Amax WMAs are the result of a unique partnership of the University of Kentucky, Cyprus Amax Minerals Corp. and the Ky. Dept. Fish and Wildlife Resources. This area is a unique example of an old growth forest ecosystem on the Cumberland Plateau. Black bear, deer, turkey, grouse, and numerous songbirds and other forest species can be found here. A 10,000-acre block is refuged. The remaining acreage in 3 blocks is open to public hunting. User permit ($10) and liability waiver required; also valid for Cyprus Amax WMA.

From Jackson, travel south on Hwy. 15 to Lost Creek; turn east on Hwy. 476 and travel approximately 8 m. to left turn onto gravel Buckhorn Creek Rd., proceed approximately 3 mi. to Camp Robinson (UK work station) on Clemons Fork Rd., or from Hwy. 80 between Hazard and Hindman, turn west onto Hwy. 476 to Breathitt Co. line, travel approximately 1 mi. to right turn onto gravel Buckhorn Creek Rd. and proceed as stated above.

    This area is primarily hilly with steep slopes and long, narrow ridge tops, with flats only in bottoms and on tops of ridges. It is mostly forested with approximately 30 acres of openings. Deer, turkey, raccoon, squirrel, grouse, quail, rabbit, and squirrel can be found here. There are no developed facilities. For camping check with owner.
