Krafty Ideas - Fun Flowers

by AboutPaducah.com Editors (September 7, 2000)

Materials:

Cloth Covered Wire
Material
Aileen’s Tacky Glue
Pom-Poms, Buttons or Flower Centers
Floral Tape
Small Bottle to Shape Petals (2oz Acrylic Paint Bottle Works Well.)

Tools:

Scissors

Make 5 petals for each flower. Wrap wire around bottle to form petal. Leave a few inches of wire and twist to secure.
Bend the wire ends up.
Glue a small amount of Aileen’s Tacky Glue around the edge of the wire circle. Lay on material. Repeat for other 4 petals.
Let dry completely. (Overnight)
Cut around the wires. (Close to wires, material will be in center.)
Bend excess wires back straight.
Place 5 petals together. (One behind the other) Twist all wires together.
Wrap floral tape around wire for stem.
Turn out petals one at a time. (Colored wire should show on top of petal.)
Glue center. (Use pom-poms, buttons or flower centers.)

Note:

You can also make leaves from green wire and material. Shape wires like leaves by wrapping wire around bottle as you did for petals, then shape one side to a point. Glue to green material. Dry, then cut off excess material. Bend wire to shape then you can glue a small wire to center for leaf vein. Add leaves to flowers as you wind on floral tape.
Idea!

Flowers can be for arrangements, to decorate packages, hair decorations and corsages.

Enjoy!

 Cloth covered wire
 By: Ann Schwabe - 2002-03-28

I have been making fabric flowers for a long time; however, I notice it is very difficulty to find cloth or cotton covered wire (32 guage preferably) in a variety of colors, (red blue orange yellow purple). Where do you suggest I should get some; do you know who sells this? Please advise and thank you for your help.

I'm not aware of a supplier offhand. Have you tried the Craft Supply Search Network yet? It's at:
