Lourdes Announces Expansion
by Press Release (August 19, 2002)
Lourdes announces a 127,000 square foot expansion at the
hospital campus to include a five-story building and a pedestrian mall. The building will be named the Marshall Nemer Pavilion in memory of our long-time Lourdes' board member who died in June.
The building will be located at the south side of the hospital and will be connected to the present building at three levels. A portion will contain physicians' office space to replace the existing Medical Office Building, with the remaining space designated as outpatient clinical areas, registration, pre-admission testing, a community meeting room, and office space.
The pedestrian mall will include a cafe and gift shop. A new Chapel will be located at the junction of the mall and pavilion, and will be designed to be welcoming and inviting to all people of all faiths. A wall of windows in the Chapel will overlook a terraced garden.
"Dramatic growth in patient volumes in recent years necessitates this expansion, which provides much needed space, convenience for our patients and their families, and improved patient flow into and out of the hospital," states Dr. William G. Wheeler, President and CEO of Lourdes.
According to Doug Borders, President and CEO of the
Kentucky/Indiana Region of Catholic Healthcare Partners, "The Pavilion is a fitting remembrance of Marshall Nemer, his dedication to the Lourdes' mission, and his love for our patients and employees."
The $27 million construction project will begin immediately and will include the Marshall Nemer Pavilion, the Chapel, and the pedestrian mall, with renovation of space adjacent to the new building in the existing facility. In addition to the project announced today, the present facility is undergoing numerous changes to accommodate growth. This includes an expansion and renovation of the Emergency Department, scheduled for completion in the spring of 2003. Other efforts include an expansion of the Same
Day Surgery Department, Laboratory, Little Miracles Birthing
Center, and a recently opened 20-bed Observation Unit.
Lourdes is a member of Catholic Healthcare Partners, based in Cincinnati, Ohio, one of the largest not-for-profit health systems in the United States.

How appropriate to name a building addition after such a wonderful man who so loved that hospital - As a friend of the family, I am looking forward to seeing it when it is finished.
