SkinHeads Restaurant
by Corey Dunn (March 22, 2001)
Opened by Jim "Skinhead" Skaggs in 1972, Skinheads Restaurant had a very simple motto: "Short, Fat, Thin or Tall, Ole Skinhead' will try to feed y'all." And that's exactly what Skinhead has done for nearly 30 years! Today, the restaurant is known as "The Breakfast House of the South".
The idea was simple: give his customers great food at a good price, and they will keep coming back. It worked! Skaggs starting selling breakfast in the 1970's for $1 a plate. Almost thirty years later, he is still selling those breakfast platters for only a little over $2. Besides great prices, Skinhead's has great customer support. Susan Duncan, who has been with the restaurant for over 25 years and is currently the manager, serves customers today who (over 20 years ago) she had to help into a booster seat! Since the news that Skinhead's was closing, many customers have come in and asked where they are supposed to go once Skinhead's Restaurant closes. In my opinion, breakfast won't be the most important meal of the day without Skinhead's serving it up.
People from many different states have come to enjoy the fine home cooking of Skinhead's Restaurant including famous people like "Bubba the Comedian" and Willard Scott. Skinhead's has also been featured in Newsweek, Esquire Magazine (Jane & Michael Stern are syndicated columnists and the authors of Road Food, Good Food and Square Meals.) and by Paula Cunningham in the West Kentucky Restaurant Guide. Numerous papers across the country have written stories about this great restaurant. Skinhead's is the oldest continuously home-owned restaurant in Paducah.
If you've never had the opportunity to have some of their famous biscuits and gravy, I am afraid to say they may never have their chance. Skinhead's is scheduled to close their doors March 31, 2001... However, Skinhead's Restaurant is for sale. If anyone would like to keep the tradition alive, they can contact Coy Stacey at Century 21.

Crosley Museum
By: Rex Wright - 2001-08-22
It would be nice to see an article about Gerald Davenport and the Crosley Museum, 500 Brown Street. Gerald has just established a new Class Record with the Southern California Timing Association at Bonneville Salt Flats, Utah (Class J Pro, 8/01, speed 92.337mph official). This puts him and his museum in a very elite class of record holders, and publicity about the record could bring more guests into Paducah. Thanks,
Rex Wright

skinheads
By: Kathy Pope - 2002-04-13
I have been coming to Paducah from NY for the quilt show /for 12 years where I have enjoyed breakfast at Skinhead's. I missed the show last year and now am sorry to read Skinhead's may have closed. Is this true? Has there only been a change of owner? I am coming to your wonderful, friendly little city in a few days for the show and will definitely miss the "Skinhead's experience".
Thank you,
Kathy Pope
