Demonstration & Trial Garden

Demonstration & Trial Garden, Paducah, KY

The Master Gardeners invite you to visit the new Demonstration and Trial Garden located at 3600 Coleman Road. It features an herb garden, U.K. trial beds, sunflower garden, shrub and perennial borders and a working greenhouse and pergola.

A 2.5 acre plot leased from McCracken County is the centerpiece of PAMGA's educational efforts. With greenhouses, a small orchard and space for an outdoor classroom, Master Gardeners maintain various annual, perennial, herb and geophyte beds. On-site structures demonstrate arbors and pergolas that can be added to the home garden. By participating in UK plant trials, PAMGA provides valuable data in evaluating the performance of new plant introductions in the Purchase Area. The garden is open continuously for self-guided tours.

The purpose of The Garden is to educate students and the public, demonstrate what does and does not grow well in this area, introduce new plants and provide a nice place to relax. The focal point of the garden, the tower, was placed in the center of the herb garden. Plants can be expensive and knowing what works in your particular area before you purchase gives gardeners a leg up when designing their own backyard havens.

The garden is open to the public, free of charge, on a year round basis. It is a favorite feeding site for birds (especially gold finhes), caterpillars, and butterflies. The herb garden contains sensory, mint, lavender, culinary and medicinal and sensory beds.
