1,690 acres in Madison Co.
A gravel road passes through the center of this area, with hiking trails throughout. Terrain is rolling to flat with old fields, wooded areas and several wildlife food plots. There are oak-hickory timber stands (10-20 acres) along ridge slopes and streams and cedar thickets in abandoned cropland areas. Poorly drained soils cause the area to stay wet in spring and fall. This area is an excellent example of small game habitat. Quail, rabbit, squirrel, dove, deer, furbearers, cardinals, and bluebirds can be found here. On rare occasions grouse and woodcock may be seen. Wood duck nesting/rearing are common. No camping is allowed.
This area is used most for field trials, bird dog training, hiking, birding. Trap, skeet shooting available for clubs; call (606) 986-4130 for information. Fishing in area ponds for largemouth bass, bluegill, channel catfish is also available. There are few maintained roads and several parking areas are scattered throughout. Visitors should plan for extensive walking. The Adm. bldg. is available for conservation club groups. Berea, Fort Boonesborough State Park and Daniel Boone National Forest are nearby.
