Celebrate Celtic heritage during this three-day, annual September festival with events including children's activities, dancers, athletes, and pipe and drum bands. Since its inception in 1996, the West Kentucky Highland Festival has been the place to be every fall in West Kentucky.
Formerly held at Carson Park in Paducah, Kentucky, the Games recently moved to Murray, Kentucky, in 2006, to house the vastness of the events that take place each year.Celtic celebration honoring Scottish heritage; such as: bagpipe bands, music, amateur athletic competition including: cabre-tossing, sheath toss, weighted throws, stone throws, etc., Clan tents, Scottish entertainers, genealogy tent, Scottish vendors, highland cattle, sheepherding, music, dancing, athletic events, children's games, vendors,entertainment, antique gas & steam engine show, grand exhibit of antique gasoline and steam-powered machinery, food, flea market, arts & crafts, pony rides and petting zoo, lawn mower & kiddie tractor pull and more.
Ceilidh is derived from the Gaelic word meaning “to visit”. Ceilidhs are traditionally parties that include music and dancing. All things Scottish will be celebrated with a Ceilidh, highland games, reading of the tartans and live Celtic music. Watch professional lumberjack competitors saw through wood and see the wood chips fly! Details of the celebrations will be publicized as the date approaches.
